What is Green Packaging?

Green Packaging, also known as pollution-free Packaging or environmentally Friendly Packaging, refers to packaging that is harmless to the ecological environment and human health, can be reused and recycled, and is in line with sustainable development.

The "Green Packaging Evaluation Methods and Guidelines" was issued and implemented by the State Administration for Market Regulation on May 13, 2019. For the evaluation criteria of green packaging, the new national standard specifies the key technical requirements for the grade assessment from four aspects: resource attributes, energy attributes, environmental attributes and product attributes, and gives the setting principle of the benchmark score value: key indicators such as reuse, actual recycling rate, and degradation performance are given higher scores. The standard defines the connotation of "green packaging" : in the whole life cycle of packaging products, under the premise of meeting the functional requirements of packaging, packaging that is less harmful to human health and the ecological environment, and less resource and energy consumption.

The implementation of the standard is of pivotal significance for promoting the evaluation research and application demonstration of green packaging, transforming the packaging industry structure, and realizing the sustainable development of the packaging industry.

China's packaging industry is huge, the current domestic production enterprises more than 200,000, but more than 80% of enterprises to produce traditional packaging products, the lack of green advanced technology. The introduction of the new national standard will force enterprises to update their products through the technical lever of "green packaging evaluation" and promote the transformation of China's packaging industry to a green model.
